Day of discoveries in SAN REMO with our guide and friend SANDRO
Le matin, en compagnie de Sandro, nous arrivons à San Remo où nous commençons notre visite par le quartier inférieur PIANO. Parmi ses monuments les plus intéressants, la chapelle de l’Immaculée, le majestueux Palais Borea, construit au XVe siècle, le plus grand édifice de toute la Ligurie occidentale, et l’église de San Siro du XIIe siècle, qui possède 12 cloches… Puis nous nous rendrons au Palais Nota, qui date du XVIIe siècle, ancien siège du gouverneur génois, qui abrite désormais le Musée d’histoire locale et la Pinacothèque, avec des œuvres du XVIIe au XXe siècle. Pour finir, nous nous dirigeons vers le quartier supérieur PIGNA, et franchissons la Porta di Santo Stefano, une arche gothique du XIVe siècle, pour nous promener et/ou nous perdre dans le centre historique et authentique de San Remo.
In the morning, in the company of Sandro, we’ll arrive in San Remo where we’ll start our visit by the lower PIANO district. Among its most interesting monuments are the Chapel of the Immaculate, the majestic Palazzo Borea, built in the 15th century, the largest building all over western Liguria, and the Church of San Siro from the 12th century, which has 12 bells… Then we will go to the Nota Palace, which dates from the 17th century, former seat of the Genoese governor, which now houses the Local History Museum and the Pinacoteca, with works from the 17th to the 20th century. Finally, we’ll head to the upper PIGNA district, and cross the Porta di Santo Stefano, a 14th century Gothic arch, to stroll and get lost in the historic and authentic center of San Remo.

L’après-midi, nous découvrons, à Arma di Taggia, la Grotte dell’Arma, qui fut fréquentée par l’homme de Neandertal et héberge aujourd’hui un sanctuaire baroque, très vénéré par les autochtones. Cette profonde cavité naturelle s’ouvre dans un grand bloc de conglomérat, dominé par une tour Barbaresque impressionnante datant de l’an 1565. Selon la météo, nous pouvons modifier le programme de l’après-midi et vous proposer une promenade le long de la piste cyclable jusqu’au Jardin Ormond, composé de deux parties, le jardin supérieur avec une section consacrée à la floriculture, jadis l’activité la plus importante de la ville, des arbres monumentaux du genre Ficus et la villa qui fut la résidence de la famille du même nom, et le jardin inférieur près de la mer, avec des plantes exotiques. Nous en profiterons pour visiter le Museo del Fiore.
En fin d’après-midi, retour à Menton.
In the afternoon, we’ll discover, in Arma di Taggia, the Grotte dell'Arma, which was frequented by Neanderthal Man and houses today a Baroque sanctuary, much revered by the natives. This deep natural cavity opens into a large block of conglomerate, dominated by an impressive Barbary tower dating from the year 1565. Depending on the weather, we can modify the afternoon program and suggest a walk along the cycle path to the Ormond Garden, made up of two parts, the upper garden with a section dedicated to floriculture, formerly the most important activity of the city, monumental trees such as the Ficus genus and the villa which was the residence of the family bearing the same name, and the lower garden near the sea, with exotic plants. We will take the opportunity to visit the Museo del Fiore.At the end of the afternoon, back to Menton!
